NHL Hockey Betting: Nashville Predators at St. Louis Blues

NHL Hockey Betting: Nashville Predators at St. Louis Blues&h=253&w=372&zc=1

The Nashville Predators are something of a mess right now. They played reasonably well for 50 minutes in each of their last two home games against the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild. All they have to show for it is one point. They took the Wild to overtime before losing after regulation for the sixth time this season. At least they got a point out of that. Last night they outplayed the Chicago Blackhawks for most of the game before two late goals turned a 2-1 lead into a 3-2 loss. Off season trade acquisition P.K. Subban is out ‘indefinitely’ with a ‘lower body injury’ while the guy they traded for him–Shea Weber–is +16 with 9 goals and a 11 assists in Montreal and likely the team’s MVP not counting Carey Price.

St. Louis is 4-5-1 in their last 10 games but they’ve been very tough at home this year. They’re currently in third place in the Central Division behind Chicago and Minnesota and have been very nasty at home this year with a 14-2-4 record. They haven’t played poorly but they’ve got a lot of ground to make up giving the excellent play of the Wild and Blackhawks. They’ll go with starter Jake Allen here and he’s been decent this year though not Vezina-worthy: 16-8-3 with a 2.63 goals against average, a 0.905 save percentage and 1 shutout.

Juuse Saros gets the start in net for Nashville in the second of back to back games after Pekka Rinne got the call last night. Saros has been very good in his limited role with a 2-2-1 record, a 1.39 goals against average and a 0.950 save percentage. The Predators could be without James Neal for this game–he’s listed as ‘questionable’ here.

This series has been dominated by the home team. Nashville holds a 2-1 edge in head to head play during the current season winning both games at Bridgestone Arena and losing in their only game to date in St. Louis. The Blues have won 5 of the last 6 head to head on their home ice. Potential look ahead spot for the Blues with the big outdoor game against the Blackhawks on 1/2/17. This looks like a game that the Predators could steal and we’ll back them at the big price.
