NHL Hockey Betting: Detroit Red Wings at Tampa Bay Lightning

The Detroit Red Wings’ season is swirling down the drain. The fans and media have started their postmortems–a big change from a few days ago when they were still trying to tinker with the fourth line suggesting that would be the difference maker. Now they’re pointing out that Game Five could be Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk’s last game together as teammates (Datsyuk wants to return to Russia and play there). Credit the Wings for making the playoffs for the millionth straight year but this year was close. If Boston doesn’t fall apart down the stretch they’re watching this on TV.

Tampa Bay is simply the better team. They’ve got an unlikely new hero–Jonathan Drouin, whom we last heard from when he demanded to be traded. Three assists in Game Four will get it done–he had a helper on every Tampa Bay goal. Detroit has no answer for ‘The Triplets’ line and looks old and slow against them. Making things worse–the media is now noticing this team’s lack of discipline especially from a tactical standpoint. Maybe they’ll soon notice overrated coach Jeff Blashill is out of ideas and out of players to ‘scapegoat’. Apparently, Jimmy Howard is now in ‘the doghouse’ and former starter Petr Mrazek is now the starter again.

The Bolts are the better team. They were unfairly marginalized at the start of the playoffs as people apparently forgot they were in the Stanley Cup Finals a year ago and have improved defensively. Massive goalie Ben Bishop is now an elite level goaltender. Lightning have dominated the Wings over the last three seasons overall (16-8-0) and particularly at home (10-2-0). The problem for Detroit is they simply don’t have the personnel to match up with a much improved defense and a potent, multifaceted offense. Even without Steven Stamkos in the lineup the Lightning have plenty of snipers. Now add Drouin to the mix–and he’s also a good facilitator. The Wings can’t settle on a goaltender and their defense can’t make things easy on them when they do. Just a bad tactical matchup for Detroit, their coach is out of answers and the team is out of time. Tampa Bay eliminates the Wings.
