NHL Hockey Betting: Detroit Red Wings at Minnesota Wild

NHL Hockey Betting: Detroit Red Wings at Minnesota Wild&h=253&w=372&zc=1

The Detroit Red Wings are slumping badly–they’re 2-4-4 in their last ten games and in last place in the Eastern Conference with 54 points. They’ll be trying to avoid a four game losing streak but they haven’t been getting much help from their schedule–they’ve played at home against Columbus before a three game road trip with games at Washington, Columbus and now at Minnesota. Playing the best team in the Western Conference in the second of a back to back game spot isn’t exactly what the Wings need right now. The Wild are doing just about everything right. They’ve got 78 points putting them 3 ahead of Chicago in the Central Division and 7 ahead of Pacific leading San Jose. They’re 7-3-0 in their last ten games and are in the midst of a 7 game home stand. They’ve got some tough opponents during this stretch–they’ve already lost to Chicago and beaten Tampa Bay and following this game against the Wings they’ll face Anaheim, Dallas, Nashville and Chicago again. The Wings return home for three of their next four but things won’t get much easier for them. They face St. Louis, Washington, take a quick trip to Pittsburgh to play the Penguins and return home to take on the New York Islanders (who have been playing very well since their coaching change). Things might get a lot worse for Detroit before they start to get better.

Neither team has confirmed their goaltending assignment for Sunday but there’s no reason to think that the Wild won’t go with starter Devan Dubnyk. Dubnyk has started 42 of the Wild’s 54 games this season and has been exceptional. He’s got a record of 30-9-3 with a 1.96 goals against average and a 0.934 save percentage. Since Detroit’s Jimmy Howard is sidelined indefinitely there’s a good chance that the Wings will go with Petr Mrazek here. Mrazek has struggled this season with a 12-13-6 record to go with a 3.14 goals against average and a 0.897 save percentage.

This is the first game between Detroit and Minnesota this season. The teams split a pair of matchups last season but they’ve headed in different directions since then. Big price but the Wild are 18-6-1 at home and I sure can’t think of a compelling base to bet on the Wings.
