NHL is on All Star Break so we’ll look at some NBA action. And we’ll also talk about the All Star Weekend festivities:

NHL ALL STAR GAME:

The teams were drafted last night and the betting lines are in the ‘pick’em’ range which is where they should be. Total on the All Star Game is 21. The last two All Star Games landed exactly on 21, but the only games in All Star history to exceed 21 were the 1993 game (Wales Conference 16 Campbell Conference 6), 2001 (North America 14 World 12) and 2009 (East 12 West 11). ‘Under’ looks like the play. At one point the ‘Over’ in the All Star Game was free money but we’re talking totals of 11 and 12. The prices are just way too inflated now so the ‘Under’ is the way to go.

The Skills Competition is on Saturday night and well worth watching. Not sure there’s a betting angle on it or if there are even bettable lines anywhere. You also want to watch the incredible video that GoPro has posted of NHL players on a practice rink with GoPro cameras. There will be coverage during the All Star Game with GoPro Cameras and that should be a lot of fun.

NBA BASKETBALL:

Before we look at the games on tonight’s schedule big news coming across the wires right now that LaMarcus Aldridge has been upgraded to ‘probable’ for tonight’s Portland vs. Washington game in the Rose City. ┬áHere’s the announcement itself–click to enlarge:

At the moment no clue what has changed. Last we heard Aldridge was going to be out 6 to 8 weeks with a torn ligament in his thumb that required surgery.

Actually, right after I wrote that paragraph Rotoworld updated with:

Wow! He is going to put the surgery on hold and will play through the tear in his left thumb. This is easily the most shocking news of the season after the team announced he was going to rest 6-8 weeks. Obviously grab Aldridge in all leagues and hope he can avoid an aggravation. If you added any Blazer in even 14- or 16-team leagues, you can cut him. Although owners in deeper leagues can look to Dorell Wright, C.J. McCollum or Victor Claver because Nicolas Batum is hurt.

Props to Portland’s KGW TV for getting the 4-1-1 before anyone else. That’s why you need a dedicated source of injury info. You just can’t rely on ESPN and the ilk. KGW beat ESPN to the punch by at least five minutes. My live odds feed got it 10 minutes earlier. A lot of people were able to get the Blazers +5′ over Washington tonight as a result.

NEW YORK KNICKS AT CHARLOTTE BOBCATS HORNETS:

Knicks have won three straight but against New Orleans, Philadelphia and Orlando. Hornets won’t be in a pleasant mood after LeBron and the Cavs destroyed them in Cleveland last night.

BET CHARLOTTE BOBCATS -9 OVER NEW YORK KNICKS

DETROIT PISTONS AT MILWAUKEE BUCKS:

Pistons on a 7-3 SU run but Milwaukee has been money in the bank against opponents with losing records with a 16-5 ATS record.

BET MILWAUKEE BUCKS +2 OVER DETROIT PISTONS
